Storm - Bartzi Goldblatt

Title: Storm

Year: 2019

Artist: Bartzi Goldblatt

Size: 50 x 70 cm

Edition: 1/15

STORM. In the series of photographs, Bartzi Goldblatt documents his parents in staged scenes that explore both the relationship between his father and mother, his own relationship with his parents, and the atmosphere in his childhood home: for example, the cleanliness of the photographs, the sterility that characterizes them, reflect the sanctity and cleanliness Home education.

In places where the parents are, the place is not defined; The photo site appears without any characterization or identity. It is possible that this is how Barzi shows the difficulty of his parents - a couple of immigrants from the former Soviet Union, who have never been able to fully integrate in Israel - to "settle down", that is, to acquire a place, culture and language. They are 50 years away from their homeland but still feel they belong to it, even though it now exists only as an imaginary site.

The series of photographs raises questions about his parents' relationship as a couple: the relationship of dependence and control that exists between them, their way of expressing love and the way they came to terms with their shared destiny.
