Ā SABA SINGER is an art piece from the project āIām at the bank, Iāll be right backā. An art installation that took place in the apartment of the artistās grandfather - four months after he passed away.Ā In this rare moment of transition, where an apartment in a very desirable area of central Tel Aviv was nearly empty, itās face was changed as it became a temporary exhibition space. The naked walls were filled with meaning and emotion. The exhibition sublet in this apartment represented a ritual baton, a transfer between generations.
Grandfather, āSaba Zviā, was born in Warsaw and dreamt about singing in the Synagogue. His dad insisted that he needed an education and Zvi then studied to be a sewing machine repairer wich later helped him survive the holocaust because his skills were needed in the russian army. After the war he immigrated to Israel, and opened his own shop, repairing sewing machines until he was 85 years old. After Saba Zviās passing the Singer sewing machine was herited to the artist.
